The following photos demonstrate the results of greatly thinning young woody growth that had begun to infill this Pennsylvania sedge dominated black oak barrens. Many young black oak were removed to increase light penetration, while older individuals were left standing. Occasional non oak trees were left standin such as cherry given its importance as a food source for many native insects.
