Site Assessments comprise the establishment of baseline data prior to the initiation of construction or other types of development projects. It is critical that Site Assessments be performed early in the design process. Too often the insights of ecologists and landscape architects are engaged after many crucial decisions have already been made. This often results in the degradation of the natural setting, loss of ecological qualities and functions, and wasting of materials of potential reuse. The latter often includes woody resources of use either as potential timber resource or for biomass production purposes. Examples illustrated below include Site Development, Highway Reconstruction Planing, and Historic Landscape Preservation. All of these have in common the performance of Botanical Inventories.
